- Breed and Milk Organic Jersey cattle for research in organic nutrition and feeding.
- Offer students a Regional Program in conventional and organic theory & practice.
- Give farmers tools and data to assess transition from conventional to organic.
- Assist suppliers to test feeds, equipment, management methods & technologies.
Upon completion of the Milking Parlor and Pack Barn, UNH will be able to:
- Support producers, distributors and households wanting organic milk.
- Leverage other private and federal resources that are in place.
- Invest in expertise from neighboring universities to develop curriculum.
Upon completion of a Regional Facility and Education Center, UNH will be able to:
- Offer educational programs in sustainable agriculture, foods and nutrition.
- Provide lodging to students and researchers who need to be on the organic dairy site.
- Attract school groups and visitors for tours of an organic dairy farm.
- Participate globally in similar initiatives.
The Organic Dairy is committed to being a self-sustaining operation through sale of organic cows & milk. It intends to grow in quality, not quantity.
